AbstractSerious Games are now an established field of study. In this field most would attribute the rise of Serious Games to Clark C Abt’s creation of the term in 1970, or indeed Ben Sawyer’s popularization of it in 2002. However, considering the rich history of purposing non-digital games, itself preceded by discussions of purposing play that are traceable to the work of Plato, it can be said that Serious Games is a contemporary manifestation of centuries old theories and practices.

Abstract After the turn of the century, video games have risen up to the level of the largest mainstream entertainment mediums, now even challenging the movie industry in size. Even though the area occupied by serious games in this market has only just recently really started growing, with serious games still being only a relatively small portion of the video games market, has the idea of using games as tools for education and training been the target of continuous interest for at least the

This article describes the development, implementation, assessment, debriefing and outcomes, and potential uses of a university student-driven educational gaming project, as a major assessment item in an archaeology course entitled ‘Ancient Medicine’. Discussion of these various aspects of the project is explored in the context of educational gaming theory and practice. ABSTRACT Examining the progressive and optimistic rhetoric about serious games in healthcare as a starting point, this thesis analyses the rhetoric of progress in medical media instruments and applications as recurring discursive building blocks in media history. It argues that the narrative of serious games history - a rhetoric that operates from within fixed values and beliefs about technological innovation - is part of a longstanding tradition in medical media history that shares partic

The game was executed in two instances, one in the Washington, DC area with U.S. subject matter experts, and

Human wellbeing, in a large component, relies on the harmony between the body and the mind. Unfortunately, we often miss or ignore important signals from our bodies, and sometimes this can negatively impact our health. Therefore, the use of intelligent systems that grasp such signals and convey them in an intuitive manner to our minds can result in great health benefits. In this Thesis, we introduce a family of multimedia technologies and techniques aimed at realizing such systems. We call them:

Abstract:In the digital age, museums and historical sites must explore how to leverage technologies to engage guests. Gaming-whether technology-based or not--is an approach that some museums have been using as a means for teaching visitors. Bringing the two together to create an online-onsite-online game is an effective approach for educating, immersing, and engaging guests, especially “digital natives” for whom technology is an integral part of daily life. In June 2013, the Colonial
